Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
