The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the United States against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official has said.
EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe such as the French president charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals that were central to campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
